Sam understands the need for affordable housing as market values rise in real estate. Sam is passionate about each American’s ability to obtain affordable home ownership and affordable rents at an affordable rate. This is reminiscent of his past support for the Lincoln Square development, as well as his own business ventures into the affordable housing market. Providing comfortable and safe spaces for families to live coincide with Micah 4:4, “and everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid…” The issue of rising rents, inflation, food insecurity and more can cause fear and doubt in this economy. Families are forced to make the difficult decision to buy groceries or pay the rent/mortgage for the month. No one should choose between food and shelter, which is why affordable housing is a passionate issue for Sam and his campaign. Through the use of tax credit developments, Sam wants to encourage developers to apply for these credits in order to give more families hope in buying affordable homes.
Sam believes in supporting and advancing small businesses in the areas of mentorship, networking and growth. By creating opportunities for small businesses to thrive, Lakelanders can seethat type of growth promotes economic sustainability for entrepreneurs. As a small business owner himself, Sam understands the need for cultivating drive, determination, and opportunities for small businesses. This is why Sam co-founded The Central Florida Business Diversity Council, a 501c3 that promotes leadership, mentorship, and ways to grow small businesses in Central Florida. Sam’s hopes that these principles can be applied to his tenure as City Commissioner, to support and cultivate the efforts of small business owners.
Lakeland is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. With the budding population comes the need for growth management. Sam sees the importance to accommodate population growth in the City of Lakeland. Through the improvement of infrastructure, services, and systems, growth management is achievable by voting for processes and systems that will improve the quality of life for the people of Lakeland. Some of these systems is through improved roadways and transportation. Sam is dedicated to voting in favor of road improvements and better access to transportation in the City of Lakeland. Sam is also in favor of creating eco-sustainable solutions for the conservation and beautification of land and nature.
Sam is committed to continuing a culture of safety and equity in the Lakeland community. Safety is a serious issue within the Northwest district. As the former president of the Northwest Webster Park Neighborhood Association, Sam understands the need for community building in collaboration with the police department. Through listening to both police officers and the community, Sam supports neighborhood associations that create spaces for effective communication between residents and police officers. To create equity, one must respect both sides of a situation and realize the community and police are working toward the same goals -equity and safety. Additionally, with the growth of the population and the impending reconstruction of Fire Station 3, there should be as few delays as possible in responding to an emergency in the Northwest district. As a few minutes can be worth someone’s life, Sam wants to vote in favor for a temporary fire station in the NW district to lessen delays in providing emergency services.
